Chicory
(Sold)
Mixed Media on Canvas: India ink, acrylic, watercolor, colored pencil, pencil, pen, coffee, thread
In this work is part of my series titled “tend”. It is responding to the time of year when chicory flowers are in bloom in the roadside ditches, summer is half over but the days are still long and the light coming into living room windows is confident and bright. There is a refraction of light on these days which gives the air a certain intensity. Grasses teem with grasshoppers, bees, gnats, and mosquitoes. Queen Anne’s lace offers a suggestion of Autumn, but is largely drowned out by the buzz and hum of long summer days.
